Uncertainty monitoring is the detection and use of insufficient evidence: recognizing when a perception, memory or decision may be wrong, and sometimes responding by opting out, seeking information or delaying commitment. The behavior is measurable, but conscious awareness cannot be inferred from behavior alone.
