Presence is the capacity to remain in contact with what is happening now, both inside and around us.
Presence is the capacity to remain in contact with what is happening now, both inside and around us.
That does not mean feeling peaceful. You can be frightened and present. Angry and present. Excited, uncertain or grieving and still remain in contact with the moment.
Presence becomes visible in the small interval between experience and reaction. You notice the tightening in your stomach before saying yes. You realize you have stopped listening during a conversation. You catch yourself running through tomorrow while sitting beside someone you love.
That noticing creates options.
Presence is therefore less about achieving a special state of consciousness and more about becoming available to reality while it is actually happening.
