Grief is the capacity to remain in relationship with loss.

Loss changes more than circumstances.
It changes expectation, identity, routine, attachment and the future we assumed would happen.
Grief is the human process through which those changes gradually become inhabitable.
That is why grief cannot be reduced to sadness.
It may contain anger, numbness, tenderness, relief, longing, memory and even moments of joy.
Grief does not mean regulation has failed.
Sometimes grief is exactly what a healthy system does when something mattered.
