Desire is the capacity to register and recognize wanting.
Desire is the capacity to register and recognize wanting.
It tells us that something is pulling us in a direction.
That does not mean every desire should be acted upon.
Desire is information, not entitlement.
You can want someone who does not want you.
You can want something that conflicts with another value.
You can want several incompatible things at once.
The developmental task is therefore not to eliminate desire but to become capable of hearing it without automatically obeying or silencing it.
A person who can feel desire clearly gains valuable information about where life is trying to move.
