Wisdom is the capacity to bring knowledge, experience, uncertainty, values, context and consequence into proportionate judgment.
Wisdom is the capacity to bring knowledge, experience, uncertainty, values, context and consequence into proportionate judgment.
It is larger than intelligence.
A person may know an enormous amount and still make poor decisions if they cannot judge what matters, what is missing or what the likely consequences of action will be.
Wisdom also resists simple rules.
The same response can be helpful in one context and harmful in another. The same truth can need different timing. The same value can conflict with another value that also deserves protection.
Wisdom lives in that complexity.
It asks not merely, “What do I know?”
It asks, “Given everything I know, what deserves to guide me here?”
