Acceptance is the capacity to make contact with what is already true without spending additional energy pretending it is not.

Acceptance is often misunderstood as approval.

It is not.

You can accept that something happened while believing it should not have happened. You can accept that a relationship has changed while grieving it. You can accept a limitation and still work to alter it.

Acceptance simply gives us an accurate starting point.

Without it, enormous amounts of energy can be spent arguing internally with reality. With it, attention becomes available for the more useful question:
