Safety & Regulation concerns how the human system responds to challenge, activation and uncertainty. The aim is not perpetual calm. The important question is flexibility: can we recognize enough safety to remain present, can emotion move without taking over every decision, and can we recover after disruption?
Safety is the capacity to recognize, establish and return to conditions of sufficient safety for adaptive functioning.
Emotional Regulation is the capacity to experience emotion without either being completely governed by it or having to suppress it.
Resilience is the capacity to recover, adapt and reorganize after stress, disruption or adversity.
Acceptance is the capacity to make contact with what is already true without spending additional energy pretending it is not.
Release is the capacity to let a response, attachment, strategy or story loosen when it is no longer serving its original function.
The capacities do not operate in isolation. These relationship entries describe important feedback loops, tensions and forms of mutual support between them.
